Pilot claims vindictive action by ex-employer

Mumbai: A former Pawan Hans pilot has moved the high court challenging an order of the Government of India to impound his passport. The pilot, now with Emirates Airlines, has alleged that the action was taken at the behest of Pawan Hans as he had left for a foreign airline. A division bench of Justice F I Rebello and Justice Anoop Mohta, which heard the petition last week, has adjourned the petition to allow A J Manchanda to make some amendments in his case.
Manchanda had put in his papers in May 2005 to join Emirates Airlines. In November 2005, Pawan Hans rejected his resignation letter and asked him to rejoin services.
On November 28, 2006, following a complaint filed by Pawan Hans, the passport office impounded his old passport. The office informed him that the passport — B 0192834, issued in 1999 — was being impounded on instructions from the government of India not to let him travel out of the country as his services were required by Pawan Hans.
