Indian held with 1,600 gm gold jewellery at airport

Mumbai: The officers of the Air Intelligence Unit of the office of the commissioner of customs, airport, intercepted an Indian passport holder Mohammed Suhail Kobattey who had earlier arrived from Dubai by Cathay Pacific Airlines on Sunday. According to Mr G. Ravindranath, additional commissioner of customs, Air Intelligence Unit, an examination of his checked-in cardboard carton, black zipper bag and Dubai duty-free plastic shopping bag resulted in the recovery of 320 pieces of assorted gold jewellery collectively weighing 1,600 gm.
Kobattey in his statement admitted the procurement, possession, carriage, concealment, non-declaration and recovery of the goods that have now been seized by the customs. He has been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigations are in progress.
