New Delhi: An air-pocket is where the Air India-Indian merger appears headed to, with several unions today raising objections to the amalgamation process before the Department of Company Affairs mainly on grounds related to wage arrears and seniority.
At the over five hour-long sitting, presided by the Department's Joint Secretary Jitesh Khosla, representatives of 17 unions belonging to both the airlines, made their submissions.
The unions represented a cross-section of employees, ranging from pilots to cabin crew to ground staff and even pensioners.
During the hearing, the union leaders made a strong plea for settlement of wage and seniority issues, besides payment of wage arrears pending for almost a decade.
The unions made it clear that all statutory dues and arrears should be cleared before the merger process goes ahead.
