A-300 takes last flight; phase out completed from Air India

New Delhi: Air India will bid adieu to its Airbus A-300 fleet, with the last of the aircraft taking off on its final flight from Mumbai to Singapore via Chennai and back before being phased out.
The A-300, which earned the sobriquet of "workhorse", was inducted in 1976 and brought with it unique features - being the first wide-bodied and twin aisled aircraft used on the domestic sector.
The aircraft with a passenger capacity of 247 catered to the growing traffic on metro sectors and was deployed on the trunk routes, linking one metro with another.
It also helped the erstwhile Indian Airlines in developing many international sectors like Delhi-Kathmandu, Delhi-Kabul, Mumbai-Kozhikode-Sharjah and Chennai-Singapore.
