Mumbai: From a plane to a car, it was quite a comedown for nearly 40 passengers on Air India's Dubai-Pune flight who were forced to complete the last leg of their journey by road after their aircraft developed a snag and was diverted to Mumbai on Tuesday. As the snag took time to get rectified, the airline sent the passengers to Pune by road.
Air India's flight, the erstwhile Indian IC 689, made an emergency landing in Mumbai at 2.49pm. “The flight had a hydraulic failure and was diverted to Mumbai airport," said an Air India official. "We sent the passengers in air-conditioned cars to Pune as it would have taken time to repair the technical fault," said an Air India spokesperson.
Since the aircraft was supposed to fly on the Dubai-Pune-Mumbai-Dubai route, passengers were left wondering if the 'snag' was only an excuse to cut costs.
