New Delhi: With increasing passenger traffic between Asia and Europe, Finnair, which is currently having daily flights from the national capital to Helsinki, is eyeing more destinations in India that include Kolkata and southern cities like Bengaluru and Chennai.
“The Air Traffic Agreement between Finland and India has to be renegotiated since the current one does not allow new destinations,” Ms Taina Törnström, director, Indian Subcontinent for Finnair, told The Statesman in an interview.
“We have at last come to India to stay and expand and we are quite happy with our current operations,” said Ms Tornstrom, who has been with Finnair for over 23 years. She is known to be instrumental in starting Finnair flights from China.
Finnair launched direct flights between Delhi and Helsinki on 30 October 2006. The flights between Mumbai and Helsinki were launched on 27 June 2007. Currently, Finnair has 12 flights a week between Helsinki and Delhi/Mumbai.
