New Delhi: Special training will be given to pilots and cabin crew of all airlines to handle emergency situations and airports will be asked to maintain operational readiness at all times.
The directions were given at a high-level meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar to review the response mechanism of various organisations involved in aviation security in case of an emergency scenario.
The meeting came in the backdrop of an incident at the IGI airport in New Delhi on Sunday resulting in emergency landing of a flight due to disruptive behaviour of a passenger.
It was decided that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of all concerned agencies should be updated for faster and effective response, an official release said.
Streamlining of the flow of information and the decision making process and carrying out emergency drills at all civil airports were also suggested. The meeting was attended by Secretaries in the Ministries of Home, Defence, Civil Aviation and External Affairs, besides senior officials including those from Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, CISF, NSG and IB.
