Pune: In another week, those planning to fly out of the city can look forward to a hassle-free departure and a brand new, swanky ambience. Construction of the new departure terminal at Lohegaon Airport is almost complete and it is expected to be in operation by May 15, J P Mathur, officiating director, Airports Authority of India, Pune, said on Thursday.
“The terminals project, being executed at an estimated investment of Rs 96.3 crore, is making fine progress. The departure lounge will be ready by May 15 with facilities such as escalators, conveyor belts and centralised air-conditioning,” Mathur told The Indian
Express. He declined, however, to predict any new flights for the airport. “I am not aware of any new flights planned at this point of time,” he said.
“Currently, we operate 38 flights in and out of Pune each day, with a passenger load of around 5,000. There are two international flights — an Air India flight to Dubai for three days a week and a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt, Germany, six days a week,” he said.
The new arrival wing is expected to be ready by the first week of July. Subsequently, re-modification of the existing departure and arrival terminals in line with the new structures would be taken up, Mathur said.
