Ranchi: There is trouble brewing at the capital’s airport with seven officials claiming there is no proper chain of command now that the director of the Birsa Munda Airport (BMA) has been transferred and asked to join his new posting in Chennai with immediate effect.
In a letter sent to the regional executive director, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Calcutta, on May 5, they claimed there was “confusion over who was in charge” at the Ranchi airport after director A.V. Krishna was transferred.
The controversy doesn’t auger well for the capital’s airport which awaits a massive expansion plan worth a whopping Rs 140 crore.
“It is learnt that A.V. Krishna has been transferred to Chennai airport and relieved accordingly. But, there is no official intimation regarding a new person who will take charge as airport director, which is hampering day-to-day functioning of the airport,” the letter, signed by the officials, said.
The officials who signed the letter (a copy is with The Telegraph) included DGM (communications) S. Maiti, DGM (civil) R.K. Raju, senior manager (electrical) S.K. Singh, senior manager (finance) M.G. Khujur, manager (P&A) P. Das and manager (fire) A.K. Manna.
Curiously, the officials’ claim that no one had been named in-charge at Ranchi airport was not entirely correct as deputy general manager (air traffic control) Shyamali Halder had indeed been named officiating head by acting general manager (personnel) of the eastern region, T.K. Gupta.
