Kohima: In what can be termed as a “New Year Gift” to the people of Nagaland, the state government has reintroduced inter-district helicopter services in the state and is set to commence by February 8. Reintroducing the helicopter services in Nagaland today, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took the first flight from Dimapur and landed at the Assam Rifles Helipad in Kohima this morning.
Accompanied by Home minister Imkong L. Imchen and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport & Communication P Dako Phom, the chief minister said the helicopter service would cater to the public besides ferrying VVIPs and other government officials. In this fast-paced world with all its pressures, the service would lift sick people from even remote areas and even fly to other states on emergency basis, Rio told media persons on his arrival at the AR helipad.
Also, this air service would help in boosting tourism as many tourists fall under pressure of time what with their other activities.
The Government of India is subsidizing 70 per cent of the costs of service and maintenance while the state would bear the remaining 30 per cent. Rio said the service would touch district to district and some tourist destinations from February 8. Fares will be fixed soon by the state government. Rio lauded the state transport department “for making our dreams come true” with the introduction of the helicopter charter services. He also looks forward to long term business with King Rotors & Air Charter Pvt. Ltd.
Later, also briefing the media, Captain KNG Nair, managing director of King Rotors & Air Charter Pvt. Ltd said the chopper has double-engines and in case of failure of one engine, it can still fly or land with the other.
