Mumbai: A Kingfisher Airlines pilot was arrested from his residence in Kandivali in the early hours of Wednesday on charges of molesting an eight-year-old girl. The accused, Uday Rawat, and the complainant reside in Oberoi Park. The alleged incident took place on Tuesday.
Rawat, 39, promised the girl chocolates and took his maid’s help to get the minor in his apartment, alleged the girl’s father. The girl’s father said, “The maid is equally guilty and should be arrested.”
According to the complaint registered in Samata Nagar Police Station, the girl was in a state of shock after the incident. When she saw her father after he returned from work later in the evening, she gathered the courage to tell him about the incident, the complaint said.
Kingfisher Airlines officials refused to comment on Rawat. Co-pilot Uday Rawat joined Kingfisher Airlines in 2007 and flies airbus A320 planes. He has worked with Air India and flew airbus A310 and Boeing 747 as first officer.
His stint with AI was marked with disciplinary issues. A few years ago, during an agitation by the pilots following an outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, Rawat had given a TV interview that didn’t go down too well with AI management.
Although Rawat’s face was blurred during the interview, the AI management found out it was indeed him and gave him the sack, airline sources said. Also, during his stint with AI, he was not given flights to the US as he had a problem getting the visa, airline sources said.
