New Delhi: No mini-skirts, no see-through tops, no tank tops, no sleeveless shirts, no track suits, no sneakers, no military shoes, no… the list goes on and on.
Air India staff and family members, please note: the above is a not-exhaustive list of the clothes that staff members and their families, including children, cannot wear while travelling by Air India or on a linked airline, even if on a private visit.
This diktat was issued by non other than Air India chairman and managing director Arvind Jadhav, in the national airline’s internal magazine, Magic Carpet.
“We have received complaints that AI employees and sometimes their kids and other family members were not properly dressed while travelling, which gives the airline a bad name,” declared AI spokesperson Chander Prakash.
Further, in a bizarre show of class consciousness, AI has also introduced different dress codes for the different classes on the aircraft, viz, first, business, and economy. For all classes, certain dresses are a strict no-no such as those listed in the first paragraph. But for those travelling by first or business class, jeans/denim clothes, sports shoes, skin tight pants, etc are also not allowed.
Air India has also listed acceptable attire: clean jeans and denims in economy class (they must not have holes or patches); clean athletic shoes in economy class, etc. Sandals are permitted in all classes.
Furthermore, jackets and ties are no longer compulsory in any class.
