DGCA to probe AI flight

Thiruvananthapuram: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be probing into the circumstances in which an Air India flight got stuck on the runway of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Wednesday evening for several hours.
Air India’s Thiruvananthapuram - Dammam flight, AI 915, got stuck while making an emergency landing. As a result, flight operations from Thiruvananthapuram were affected for about four hours. A Kingfisher flight from Bangalore to Thiruvananthapuram was subsequently diverted back to Bangalore since it could not land here.
A statement from Air India said that the aircraft prepared for an emergency landing after the cockpit crew noticed snags on the doors soon after it took off from Thiruvananthapuram airport around 6.10 pm on Wednesday. The emergency landing was carried out after ejecting the fuel over the sea so as to reduce the weight of the aircraft and to avoid an explosion.
Air India has given an incident report to the DGCA. The cockpit crew of the aircraft have been de-rostered and will not be put to service until the DGCA’s clearance is received. A team of engineers from Mumbai has arrived here to rectify the technical snag of the aircraft.
