Lucknow: Panic gripped Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport (Amausi) on Tuesday following reports that a Lucknow-bound passenger flight had been hijacked. However, it turned out to be hoax, conducted by the Airport Authority of India to ascertain how much time the police, security agencies and the district administration will take to respond to the situation in the event of an actual hijacking.
After the mock drill, which lasted for around two hours, the airport authorities said that police, fire and medical teams reached the spot in 20 to 35 minutes after getting to know about the incident. Along with Special Task Force officers and officials of the district administration, senior officials like Home Secretary Anand Kumar, DGP Karmvir Singh and ADG (Law and Order) Brij Lal also rushed to the airport.
The drill started at 3.20 pm when information of the fake hijacking of a non-existing Beta Airlines plane was received.
