Unexpected rains add to IGIA mess

New Delhi: The unexpected rains on Saturday morning added to the chaos at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, particularly Terminal 3 (T3) which has been facing teething troubles.
Disruptions in flight schedules, coupled with sheer mismanagement by airport and Air India (AI) authorities, compounded the woes of flyers.
Air India is the only carrier to have shifted its entire domestic operations to the new terminal.
With Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines also set to shift their operations to T3 from Sunday, passengers fear the situation will only worsen.
Officials said 14 out of 54 flights were delayed on Saturday evening, a number of flights were diverted and many were cancelled.
Travellers were informed about their flight status after hours of wait.
While airport officials have simply put the blame on AI, the airline has come up with excuses ranging from shortage of staff and cabin crew to unpreparedness of the airport management and lack of key facilities.
Passengers have been bearing the brunt of the lack of coordination between the airport and the airline staff.
