New Delhi: A batch of pilots — mainly family members of pilots belonging to the erstwhile Indian Airlines — allegedly recruited without any written test has come under the lens of Air India, which on Monday set up a three-member committee to look into alleged fraudulent practices to obtain licences.
The move coincides with another case of alleged forgery of documents coming to light — this time by Air India commander Arjun Giare. The airline has now decided to put the entire batch of Giare under scrutiny.
Giare has been accused of forging his birth date on the 10th grade marksheet to meet the minimum age eligibility norms set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airline regulator.
The batch members made their way into the airline without any written examination or interview, said an official.
The DGCA is reported to have found irregularities in around 40 cases, the source said.
All the 22 recruitments in this 2002 batch of the ‘senior trainee pilot paid endorsement’ category — whereby the airline was paid Rs. 20-25 lakh for training them on an Airbus 320 — are under scanner.
Later, they were recruited as trainee pilots in the airline.
