Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat’s brother and film producer Vikram Lamba has been detained at Mumbai airport on his way from a Gulf country, reports said.
Lamba has been accused of carrying undeclared foreign currency and goods, Times of India reported quoting customs officials.
Reports said that Lamba – questions for over 12 hours – was carrying 13,000 euros and personal accessories of o.4-0.5 million rupees.
According to Indian laws, passengers can carry currency and travel cheques worthy only $10,000 and can bring back accessories and branded goods worth Dh2.5 million without paying duty.
The Bollywood sensation is currently visting Dubai.
"Lamba did not declare the goods. He was trying to go through the green channel when he was stopped and asked to show his goods. On checking, we found currency worth 13,000 euros, which comes to around Rs0.8 million. He was also carrying branded bags, clothes, and iPad collectively worth Rs 0.4-0.5 million," a senior customs official told Times of India.
