Mumbai: Villagers who have been rigid about parting with their land for the Navi Mumbai Airport project have proposed another option to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) have asked for 26 percent of profit sharing when the new airport starts functioning. The Cidco had earlier ruled out their demand of `20 crore per acre.
According to Cidco officials, villagers had made the `20 crore demand when the Land Acquisition Bill was tabled in Parliament, allowing project-affected persons to ask for compensation, which is six times higher.
The Cidco still needs to acquire 485 hectares of land, which belongs to the 10 villages. In order to negotiate with the villagers, the state government has also formed a committee headed by the divisional commissioner of the Konkan region.
“There is nothing wrong in demanding profit sharing in the project, since the airport is anyways going to earn money whenever it starts functioning. This will guarantee poor farmers a fixed source of income,” said Mahendra Patil, village head of Pargaon.
