CVC examining ex-IA chief's letter alleging scam in civil aviation ministry

New Delhi: Even as the UPA government struggles to shrug off allegations of major scandals, a set of decisions taken by yet another ministry under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has come under fresh scrutiny.
According to sources, the Central Vigilance Commission has started a detailed examination of a 14-page letter written by IAS officer Sunil Arora, the former chairman-and-managing director of Indian Airlines, to the then cabinet secretary alleging that the national carrier was arm-twisted into taking several decisions that led to the financial crisis in the company.
"Based on the analysis, a final decision would be taken by the CVC - whether to refer the case to the CBI for a criminal investigation, or to initiate a departmental inquiry, or to ignore it," a source said.
