Guwahati: Uprooted from their homeland Bangladesh between 1964 and 1969, the Chakmas, who resettled in Arunachal Pradesh's Hollongi in Papumpare district, are facing the threat of displacement again. The state government has started the acquisition of lands, where the Chakmas have settled, for the proposed Greenfield Airport at Hollongi.
The Papumpare Chakma Welfare Society (PCWS) accused the state government of not ensuring transparency in the acquisition of lands for the proposed airport.
"On September 13 and 14, five Chakma inhabited villages were demarcated as the proposed site for construction of the airport by the magistrate of Balijan circle under the direction of the state government," PCWS president Bodhisatta Chakma said.
