Surat: With the Diamond City being ignored by most of the airline companies, many frequent flyers have started a campaign to boycott those airlines under the aegis of We Want Working Airport at Surat (WWWAS).
The group members have urged the city residents, especially the frequent flyers to boycott certain airlines for not providing air connectivity.
The number of those flying from Surat to various destinations in the country is pegged at 50,000 per month as per the research conducted by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI). Majority of these travellers either take flights from Vadodara or from Mumbai. It is only after February 2012 that SpiceJet started daily services to Delhi and Mumbai and contrary to the industry expectations it is operating on more than 80 per cent occupancy ratio, which is considered the best in the domestic aviation industry.
