Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik airport will soon have a state-of-the-art air traffic services (ATS) tower, replacing the obsolete one existing now. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already approved the tower, which will be located adjacent to the new domestic terminal and in the middle of the runway.
The tower, reaching up to 11 storeys, will have an anti-hijacking control room and a dedicated chamber for negotiation with hijackers. "The new tower will be 44.2-metre high, almost double the height of present tower (23.46 metre). The top floor will be dedicated to air traffic control (ATC)," said airport director Sharad Kumar. He said the AAI has already got the design done by architecture department.
