Kolkata: A flash strike by taxi operators at Kolkata airport on Monday morning severely inconvenienced incoming passengers. The strike called to protest against the alleged high-handedness and extortion by a section of police was called off 90 minutes later following assurance from senior officers that the grievances would be addressed.
Passengers arriving by early-morning flights from Delhi, Mumbai and elsewhere were in for a shock when taxis that were lined up at the arrival foyer refused to budge. The 500-odd taxis went on a stir from 8am, demanding action against an assistant sub-inspector. Around 2am on Monday, the cop had locked up four men engaged to regulate the taxi queue, triggering the strike.
