Joint forum floated to oppose airport privatization

Kolkata: Political rivals criticizing each other in the run up to the panchayat polls are on the same page when it comes to opposing the Airport Authority of India's move to hand over maintenance of Kolkata and Chennai airports to private hands. Trade unions affiliated to Citu and Inttuc floated a joint forum - Airport Authority Officers' and Employees' Joint Forum - on Friday to turn down the decision.
Airport Authority Officers' and Employees' Joint Forum - the umbrella platform that was formed on Friday - will ask for chief minister Mamata Banerjee's intervention.
"Primarily, we had a discussion with the chief minister and she will write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stop any move towards privatisation of the airport," said a Trinamool Congress leader.
