Foreign airlines not happy with the Chennai international terminal

Chennai: With a few foreign airline operators like Singapore Airlines expressing disappointment over the ill-equipped new international terminal, it is doubtful if these airlines will agree to operate flights from the new facility though it is ready for commercial operations. Speaking to DC, Singapore Airlines’s India general manager G.M. Toh said that the new premises were not yet ready for full-fledged operations.
“Lounges are not ready in the new building. Retail stores are not in place. There is a place earmarked for a food court, but no stall has been set up so far,” he added. Toh said that the airlines would continue to discuss with the airport operator on improving facilities.
Singapore Airlines southern India manager Carol Ong, who is based in Chennai, said, “There are a few issues including a steep ramp that needs to be sorted out.”  Another airline official pointed out that the space inside the new terminal is very less.
