Kolkata: Flight operations at the proposed Andal airport would begin on April 15, 2014, Partha Ghosh, Director, Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd (BAPL), said.
BAPL, a joint venture between Changi Airports International (26 per cent) and four Indian companies, is the promoter of Bengal’s first private airport near the Durgapur-Asansol industrial area.
Ghosh insisted on starting operations at the airport on April 15, despite attaining the final clearance from Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Commissioning of the airport is held up due to shifting of a major electricity transmission line (of West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Co Ltd) that is crossing the runway.
