$150,000 found on Korean at Chennai airport

Chennai: A Korean national was detained for trying to carry $150,000 worth dollar bills without declaring it at Chennai airport on Tuesday.
Yoon Kiyeol had hidden the currency, worth approximately 97 lakh, under clothes in his hand baggage. A passenger is allowed to carry foreign currency worth 7,500 while travelling abroad.
This is the second biggest seizure of foreign currency at the airport. In September 2008, foreign currency worth 40 lakh was seized from a Polish national headed for Singapore.
Kiyeol had checked in to fly on the Chennai-Hong Kong Cathay Pacific flight at 3.15am. Sources said Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel grew suspicious after they found an image that looked like currency inside the bag during security check. The dollars were found packed in three bundles.
