On Kandahar anniv, a plane hijack ‘drama’ at Mumbai airport

Early on Tuesday, when most of Mumbai was asleep, commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG) put up a swift display of their counter-terrorism capabilities as they took on gunmen in the dark during a simulated plane hijack.
The isolation bay of the Mumbai airport was the stage for the drill, which, a source said, involved more than 220 members of the special force and a Boeing aircraft belonging to Air India.
The drill began shortly after Monday midnight and ended four hours later when an NSG team, specifically trained to tackle such situations, sneaked into the aircraft and took out the threats - four commandos posing as terrorists.
The drill, carried out on the 14th anniversary of the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight 814, was reportedly ordered following intelligence inputs that terrorists may try to hijack a flight from Mumbai between December 25 and January 1.
