Cops who aided smuggler at Trivandrum airport shifted

Thiruvananthapuram:  The customs preventive unit has identified at least two police officers — on deputation to the IB and manning immigration desks at airport here — as those who helped one Shamshudeen Basheer smuggle in 2 kg gold on November 21.
Customs had intercepted Basheer based on a tip-off. However, the man who was supposed to meet him, identified as Kunjhali, got wind of the raid and gave customs the slip.
The unit has now identified two state police officers, Nawaz and Prasad, based on a statement given by one Rafique — second accused in the smuggling of gold bars — before the Ernakulam additional chief judicial magistrate (economic offences) court on Tuesday.
