Mumbai: Etihad Airways on Monday spelt out expansion plans for India, two days after the Supreme Court said it could still quash the airline's deal with Jet Airways if it found any irregularities.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier closed a Rs 2057.67 crore 24% stake-purchase deal with Jet Airways on November 20. On Monday, Etihad said it has doubled the number of flights and tripled the number of seats which it offers between Abu Dhabi and Mumbai and New Delhi, adding a second daily service and introducing wide-bodied Airbus planes on both routes.
On the Abu Dhabi-Mumbai route, the evening flight is now operated with 292-seat Airbus A340-600 aircraft. The A340-600 will add 2,044 seats per week from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai, taking the total from 952 to 2,996 seats in each direction, over triple the previous capacity.
