Hijack threat: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on alert

Hyderabad:  Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has tightened security and imposed certain restrictions following a hijack threat alert from the intelligence agencies. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has alerted all airports, including RGIA, of a possible attempt by Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives of a hijack bid to seek the release of their colleague Yasin Bhatkal, who is currently in a jail in Delhi.
Following the threat alert, entry of visitors inside the terminal has been banned till January 31. Parking of vehicles including that of VIPs as well as that of the government is not being allowed at the arrival and departure ramps. The security agencies have also resorted to double screening of airline officials and others in view of the hijack threat.
