Dubai: An Indian man has been arrested at Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates while trying to smuggle out 12 gold biscuits to his country.
The suspect, who was identified, was nabbed by customs officers at the airport. He was heading to India according to an official spokesperson from Sharjah Police.
He tried to cheat authorities by concealing 12 gold biscuits inside two bracelets which he was wearing.
Police said the suspect's plan was to smuggle the 24 carat gold weighing 699 grams into his home country using fraudulent methods to escape tax payments there, The Gulf News reported on Saturday.
