A 1 million watt solar farm, an aviation security training facility and a 130-acre golf course and academy have been inaugurated at India’s first public private partnership airport in Cochin. Cochin International Airport Limited celebrated the launch of the airport city’s new facilities and laid the foundation stone for Cochin International’s new terminal building last week with a number of the country’s top politicians in attendance. Cochin International was inaugurated in 1999. It has since grown through a public private partnership into one of India’s four current aerotropolis developments. Currently it handles 11,000 passengers a day but when complete the new terminal, which is three times bigger than the existing terminal, will be capable of handling 4,000 passengers per hour.
