Mumbai: The country's largest cold storage facility for imported goods has been set up at the Mumbai airport.The new facility is huge enough to accommodate, at a time, goods from eight cargo aircraft, airport officials said.The lack of adequate cold storage facilities here was a perennial problem, leading to perishable goods decaying.
"The new facility, set up in a modular building constructed over an area of 1,400 square meters, can handle all kinds of temperature-sensitive products. It will surely be a boon for the high-end food and hotel industry that depends a lot on imported food materials," said a senior official in the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), who was involved in the development of the facility.
The new installation will also have a separate section for storing hazardous goods, added the official.
