Jaipur: The swanky Sanganer Airport located in the heart of leading tourist destination - Pink City -has registered a negligible increase of 5.1% only in domestic passenger traffic from 2012 to 2013 against the Airports Authority of India (AAI) projection of 15%.
The figures released by the airport authorities say that domestic passenger traffic in 2013 was 17,06,046 against a traffic of 16,18,382 in 2012. Ironically, the growth comes after two years of sharp decline in passenger traffic.
The slight increase has failed to bring smiles to the airlines in operation, many of which have suspended its expansion plans from here. It resulted in decline of flight movements with 19,992 domestic flights in 2013 against 20,373 flights in 2012.
The 5.1% passenger growth is attributed to the tourist season from December to March which recorded close to seven lakh passengers of a total 17 lakh passengers in 2013. The minimum passenger load in 2013 was recorded in June with 1.26 lakh passengers flying in and out of here.
