Three flyers held with Rs 67 lakh gold

Mumbai: Customs officials at the airport arrested two passengers for smuggling gold albeit in an innovative way on Saturday. Officials seized 2.2 kg gold—a 1kg bar and 12 bars of 100gm each, worth Rs 55 lakh, from them. Shabraz Hussain, who had boarded an Air India flight from Singapore headed to Mumbai via Chennai, knew he would be checked at the Mumbai airport. To evade arrest, his aide, Shaikh Basha, boarded the flight from Chennai and collected the gold inside the aircraft. The duo then travelled to Mumbai together.
