Man held at airport for ‘smuggling’ gold

Mumbai: A 22-year-old man allegedly cleared the green channel at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) last week with at least one kg gold concealed in the sole of his shoe, said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The man, alleged to be a gold smuggler, was caught by the CISF Saturday after he returned to the airport attempting to retrieve a gold bar that he had dropped the previous day while exiting.
According to the CISF, the accused, Kerala native Rashid Ibrahim Abdulla, arrived in Mumbai Friday on-board Air Arabia flight G9-401 from Sharjah. While exiting the multi- level car park on level two of the new Terminal 2, a gold bar fell from Abdulla’s shoe.
