Airfares go sky-high, flyers suffer

Srinagar: Once again the steep hike in airfares has raised serious concern in Kashmir’s tourism industry, with stakeholders accusing the airlines of deliberately trying to make Kashmir “the costliest and least preferred destination,” to cut out tourist inflow.
According to stakeholders last month the intense public outrage against the arbitrarily increase in airfares by airlines had forced them to slash prices. “But now the air carriers operating on J&K sector have once again increased the airfares with air tickets on Srinagar- Delhi route costing between Rs 13,000 to Rs.17,000.”
Chairman, Kashmir Society, Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah said the different sections of society particularly youth and students working outside the state and tourists are being looted by airlines in JK by enhancing fares manifold.”
“We have already suggested to the concerned quarters that the airlines operating on J&K sector should keep fixed airfares for state subjects.”
