Gold haul at Dhaka airport

Three persons have been detained with 101 gold bars at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport.
Those detained came on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 9:30am on Saturday, customs department’s assistant commissioner Ishrat Jahan Ruma said.
They were identified as ‘Jainal, ‘Sabuj’ and ‘Roman’.
The Biman flight coming from Dubai initially landed in Sylhet.
The trio boarded the flight from Sylhet.
There have been a growing number of gold seizures over the past several months both at Dhaka and Chittagong airports.
Bangladesh is believed to be emerging as a conduit for contraband gold ultimately destined for India, where import curbs and rising demand drive up gold smuggling.
