Mumbai: A Rs 10 lakh survey has been commissioned for a 60km line from Thane to Navi Mumbai airport near Panvel. Another survey has been proposed between CST and Churchgate and a third for the CST-Panvel fast corridor.
While these corridors are of the utmost importance, both Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) and Central Railway (CR) said they did not know who would conduct the surveys yet. MRVC managing director Rakesh Saksena said, “We have not got any directives for conducting the survey yet; I have no information about it either.” While CR general manager Sunil Kumar Sood said, “I cannot tell you right now until I get the details. I am not aware whether the MRVC or we will be doing it.”
These are part of the Rs 16,200 lakh survey projects recommended for CR. About 43,000 surveys are still in progress on CR. An official said this might be a decision by the railway board itself, considering the bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad would stop at Thane. “We had recommended the Airoli to Kalwa link but it appears that due to the bullet train stopping at Thane, the railway board thought of the Thane to Navi Mumbai airport line,” the official said. “The railway board must have probably taken this decision as they know that PM Narendra Modi will try and get as much work done on the bullet train corridor. Therefore, it is more realistic to try this route.”
