Trichy: Airports Authority of India (AAI) here has given its nod to construct toilets in 25 government schools in the city as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
A sum of Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the pan-India project and tenders are expected to be called for in a month's time, a senior AAI official at the Trichy Airport said. The work for the construction of toilets will begin after the Srirangam bypoll.
AAI's decision comes in the wake of recent proposals sent to various private and public sector companies by the district education department on constructing toilets in government schools.
The education department has sought the companies to fund the construction of toilets under their corporate social responsibility initiative. The proposals were sent to companies such as Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Rotary Club, among others.
