Airport to Get Facelift Ahead of GIM

Chennai: Bigger and flashier. That’s the look Airports Authority of India (AAI) is gunning for as it spruces up the airport for the Global Investors Meet (GIM) to be held in the city in May. While little can be done to mend the infrastructure of airport terminals, officials are freeing up wall and column space to put up display boards about the State and the companies here. This is among a list of requests the State government is believed to have given to the AAI during a meeting earlier this week.

“There will be plenty of displays put up both inside and outside the airport, which will be part cultural and partly about the Investors Meet and the corporate companies that have a presence here. This will really increase the visual appeal of the airport,” said Captain Deepak Shastri, Airport Director.

The entrance and parking areas are also being cleared with a vengeance, as the State has asked for a clutter-free makeover. “I have already asked Metro Rail workers to remove the debris, and the rest of construction material will be cleared this week. Everything is on track as of now,” Shastri said.
