The organs of an accomplished volleyball player and an engineering student from Hyderabad, who was declared brain dead following an accident, has given life to several needy patients.
The donor heart of 20-year-old Abhijit was flown-in to Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai in a special chartered flight. Thanks to the Hyderabad city police, a green corridor was provided and the donor heart was transported to Shamshabad airport from Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad, in just 26 minutes.
A resident of West Marredpally, Abhijith, along with his friends, was travelling in a car on the outskirts of the city at Kompally on the night of Thursday, July 30. The youngster sustained grievous injuries in the car accident.
“He had sustained brain injuries and there was a lot of internal bleeding. He was declared brain dead on Friday, July 31,” VP (Medical Services), Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, Dr. Narasimha Rao said.
