‘Cloud seeding under consideration’

Vijayapura: Minister for Water Resources M.B. Patil said the government has not shelved the idea of taking up cloud seeding to tide over the drought in the State.

The Minister, however, said it was a time-consuming and not a proven formula to get rainfall. “The cloud seeding process involves many things, including obtaining permission from the Director General of Civil Aviation for flying a special aircraft with the equipment for the procedure. It would take at least two months just to get the approval, and about a month to call for tenders and complete other formalities. The option is not feasible, but the government has not fully shelved the idea,” he said.
