Unruly flyer offloaded from plane at city airport

Ahmedabad: A Goa-bound Indigo flight from Delhi carrying more than 150 passengers had to make an emergency landing at city airport on Wednesday when an unruly passenger misbehaved with the crew and also tried to enter the cockpit. The passenger, Delhi-based businessman Rahul Grover, was handed over to the CISF which later gave his custody to Sardarnagar police.

Grover, 34, was formally arrested by Sardarnagar police on the basis of the FIR filed by the airline. However, he was released on bail in the evening.

This is the first time that a flight had to make an emergency landing at city airport because of an unruly passenger posing a threat to the safety of other passengers.

Indigo officials said 6E-329 Delhi-Goa flight landed at Ahmedabad after Grover misbehaved with the cabin crew and refused to follow safety policies, despite several warnings by the Captain.

"The passenger used foul language and made inappropriate gestures," said Indigo spokesperson. "He did not follow instructions by the staff or Captain."

"Hence, in the interest of safety of other passenger, the Captain offloaded the passenger at Ahmedabad airport along with his checked-in bags," said the airline spokesperson.
