Trichy airport to get new expansion plan

TRICHY: The Trichy International Airport authorities have decided to scrap an expansion design of the terminals planned three years ago following the recent surge in passenger flow at the airport.

As per the earlier design, the AAI has planned to expand the departure terminal by 80m and arrival terminal by 101m at a cost of Rs 232 crore. The authorities are now planning to change the design considering the increase in number of passengers.

The Trichy airport has also become a profitable venture by making a profit of Rs 5 crore per year.

While the total income from the airport in 2013-2014 was Rs 57 crore, it increased to Rs 65 crore in 2014-15.

The profit has been contributed by passengers from southern and central districts travelling to south-eastern countries.
