Day after murder, airport seeks to sanitise premises

Chennai:  A day after a tea vendor was murdered at the parking lot of the city airport, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has requested police to keep unauthorised people away from the airport campus. Though airport officials and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been asking the police to keep vendors out, several people set up stalls on motorcycles or pushcarts to cater to needs of drivers and contract staff working at the airport.

The murder that took place in front of the international terminal which is a high security zone has rattled AAI officials. It is suspected that the men had a fight over selling wares inside the parking area. A senior official said the incident has brought to light the lapse in security. "The city-side area of the airport which has parking space and metro station is a sensitive area. It has to be monitored with intensity," he added.
