Pressure Mounts for a Change in Flight Timings

Mysuru:  A month after the much-awaited airline services started between Mysuru- Bengaluru by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, the flight has only registered an average of 20 per cent passenger traffic. This reflects a need for change in the flight timings, sources said.

Mysuru city, a popular tourist destination, was put on the air map after the state government granted Alliance Air Rs 1 crore to start flight services and operate it for one year.

Alliance Air flights, which has been operating for 24 days, had 463 passengers as against the 2,304 seats available on its LLP9513 flight from Kempegowda International Airport. The flight leaves Bengaluru at 6 am and reaches Mysuru at 6.40 am and the return flight from Mysuru leaves at 7 am and arrives in Bengaluru at 7.40 am. There are no flights on Sundays.

Authorities are worried because at times there are very few passengers, sometimes as low as six.

However, the flow of passengers on Saturday is encouraging, with 28 to 36 seats being occupied. Tour operators claim there is a demand for the flights on Sunday too as many passengers want to reach their work destinations only on Monday.
Johar, general manager at a leading hotel, said Air India needs to operate one more flight in the day as people who check out of hotels by 12 noon can take the flight to Bengaluru. The present timings do not suit many and it could result in the airlines incurring huge losses.
