New Delhi: Mysore may be flying the highest according to Swachh Bharat rankings — it is the cleanest city in the country — but it may not get a functional airport for some time.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju, during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, said as much when Chamrajnagar MP R Dhruvnarayana sought to know when that city's airport would become operational.
"On one side of the Mysore airport, you have the National Highway, and on the other you have the railway track. The airlines hate landing at and taking off from places with load restrictions. So, this is one big problem," Raju said. "The size of aircraft and the number of passengers are both growing. We have been trying to get people to understand this and find solutions."
The minister was equally plainspoken with Congress MP Rajiv Satav who suggested that Air India should provide connectivity to Nanded, a pilgrimage site for Sikhs.
