Trivandrum International Airport is rated as the fifth best airport in the world in its category, an international survey has said.
This is the first time that the airport has made it to the top five in the annual survey conducted by Airports Council International, a global non-profit organisation of airport operators. The survey was taken from air passengers on Airport Service Quality (ASQ) under the category of 2 to 5 million passengers per annum.
The airport under the Airports Authority of India had a traffic of over 36 lakh passengers this financial year. The ASQ survey for 2015 was announced recently.
According to Airport Director George G Tharakan, the ranking improved on account of a series of passenger-friendly measures implemented at the airport.
Ease of clearance facility, provision of Wi-Fi, opening of additional gates in departure, more lounges with dining facilities, May I Help You counter, meet and greet services, air-conditioned buses from the airport to the city by KSRTC, etc were some of them. Earlier, for quarter III of 2015 (July-September), Trivandrum airport was adjudged as the best airport governed by Airports Authority of India with a rating of 4.89 on a 5 point scale.
The Airports Service Quality (ASQ) ratings are benchmarks for airport services globally. ACI surveys the passengers and other users with a questionnaire containing 34 questions on different facilities and parameters of the airport and based on the survey results, ratings are given to airports.
